The World Cetacean Alliance (WCA) is looking to expand our Trustee Board.  This is an exciting time for the organisation, where several projects are progressing rapidly, and additional skills are desired to ensure that all aspects of the organisation are supported sufficiently by individuals with expertise in those areas.

Could this be you?

We are seeking a Trustee with fundraising experience who will be responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of a fundraising strategy in collaboration with the secretariat. They will also provide key input into strategic decision making and organisational governance, highlighting risks and making suggestions for how these could be mitigated.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone to develop and embed solid fundraising system in a small organisation that is rapidly growing.  There will be lots of opportunity to directly shape the fundraising we do with fellow trustees who are passionate about the charity.

Candidates should ideally hold a recognised fundraising qualification, have an understanding of the key fundraising streams including individual supporters, major donors and corporate partnerships and have experience in achieving fundraising goals.  They will ideally be working in the sector so that they have expertise on current issues, and they should be passionate about improving animal welfare globally.

On World Oceans Day 2013 the World Cetacean Alliance (WCA) launched as a fledgling partnership made up of a group of dedicated grass-roots NGOs, passionate individuals, and commercial whale watching businesses keen to make a positive difference for whales and dolphins. Fast forward to the present and the WCA is already the world’s largest marine conservation partnership. Operating through our partners in over 40 countries worldwide, we focus on whales and dolphins as the iconic and inspiring animals with the greatest potential to encourage millions of people to want to protect our blue planet.

Our Partners join WCA because they believe in the power of the many. Because they want to be part of our family. Because they will be treated with respect. Because they still get to retain their own identity. And because they feel, as we feel, that it will take a huge collective effort to halt biodiversity loss and animal cruelty, and encourage a new ocean-friendly and sustainable world.

Time committment

Trustees will be expected to remotely attend one trustee meeting per month, with additional meetings being optional.  These meetings will often occur outside of office hours, but timings will be flexible depending on the availability of trustees. Additional time will be required throughout the year for inputting into systems and processes especially in the early stage of involvement. Trustees may serve for up to four terms of two years each.

Application Instructions

Please provide your CV, along with a covering letter, stating why you wish to join World Cetacean Alliance (WCA).  The letter should state how your skills and experience will add value to the Board, and explain how you will meet the requirements stated above.

All application should be sent to trustee@worldcetaceanalliance.org
