A Partnership to Counteract Carbon Emissions

In April 2019 WCA Partner Auckland Whale and Dolphin Safari announced they were partnering with Million Metres. An initiative of the Sustainable Business Network, Million Metres aims to raise funds to restore 1 million metres of New Zealand’s waterways with native plants and trees.

AWADS partnered with Million Metres because they believe it is important to restore New Zealand’s waterways and mitigate against their own carbon emissions.

Oceans and trees are two of the main carbon sinks around the world, and whilst AWADS works to protect the ocean through their marine research programme, they were looking to help on the land as well.

Initially AWADS supported the project Love Omaru Stream, based in East Auckland. This month AWADS was delighted to confirm the project reached its fundraising goals and that through passenger donations they were able to contribute $550 towards the planting of native plants and trees along this water way.  In addition, Conservation Volunteers NZ ran a fundraising safari and raised $1900 through ticket sales.

Now the team at AWADS are supporting the More Love for Rangihoua project based on Waiheke Island.
