Freebird Catamaran have been a Partner of the World Cetacean Alliance since November 2017, and have been providing whale and dolphin watching excursions in Tenerife for over 20 years. They pride themselves on their love for the ocean, cetaceans and in providing unforgettable trips on high-end, modern catamarans. Based in the south west of Tenerife, Freebird provides passengers with the opportunity to see Atlantic spotted dolphins, short-finned pilot whales, common bottlenose dolphins and even occasionally orca, in their natural habitat.

On 11 March 2018, Freebird Catamaran held an informative open day for 21 Erasmus students, from 10 different nationalities, currently doing internships in the south of Tenerife. The open day focused on responsible whale and dolphin watching, and information on the whales and dolphins in the waters around Tenerife. For many of the students it was their first contact with cetaceans in the wild and provided an invaluable opportunity to learn about wild cetaceans and the work done to protect their habitats. As a Responsible Whale Watching Partner of the WCA, Freebird Catamaran was able to give the students first-hand experience of operating a responsible tour.

Motivated by recently becoming a Partner of the WCA, these awareness and training programmes are hosted by Freebird Catamaran in association with Tenerife Job Training, who coordinate the internships. The aim of the programme is to encourage immersion in the local culture and awareness of the conservation of the natural environment.
